And insurance is a scam. My insurance is offering us 10k for our 2012 civic exl, whatever I am ready to move on and tomorrow we are going to look at a 2010 Acura TSX selling for 12500 with 77k miles.
I convinced my girl at looking at the wagon; but she does not want a car payment and being that we just moved we are not going to dip into our savings too much.

How many miles? KBB value on a ‘12 Civic EXL is on $12,000 at 50k and excellent condition. Bump it up to 100k miles and you’re under $10k for excellent condition.

Based off a few quick searches in CL and cars.com, it looks like they gave you a pretty common list price for a 2012 civic exl with 85k miles on it. I even just saw some 12 civic’s with only 35k miles going for 10k.
It still sucks though.

12' civics on auto trader with 65-100k miles are all around 10-11k from dealers. That doesn’t seem terribly low. Not that great either though. Who is your provider?

That sucks that you aren't getting what you thought you would out of it. Since that seems to be the going rate, why not consider replacing it with another Civic of similar vintage?

I would retain a lawyer. Go after the Focus driver for replacement of the car, and medical bills for the girlfriend’s hands.
That’s what I did when a lady in a Camry hit my pregnant wife and I, and she broke her hand. Got enough to pay the bills, and put a nice down payment on a new car. Sucks she ended up having nerve damage and her hand/arm will never be the same.

Fuck no. But they are amazing cars. Very comfortable, great mileage, and niceties galore.
PS: the timing chain isn’t a wear item. Rarely does the chain tensioner even need servicing.
Buy car, change fluids, drive 300k miles.... that’s how you do with a TSX

If you haven't accepted the settlement yet, you can argue it. Show the KBB data for your car and they might raise it. My brother-in-law is a personal injury lawyer, and 90% of his work is negotiating higher settlements with insurance companies, instead of suing.

They have to provide compensation that could get you a comparable car. Show prices for the same car with the same mileage and require that $ or else report them to your states AG office (or whoever handles insurance in your state.)

Yeah, $10k isn’t a lowball for that car, especially considering the 2012 Civic fiasco. The resale values of 12s were cratered by the emergency refresh. I mean, I was looking at ‘13 Civic SIs for $15-17k, and the SIs hold their value a bit better than plain-jane Civics..
